In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, The State of Connecticut has enacted standards recommended by the School Safety Infrastructure Council (SSIC). Currently in effect, all applications for state funding towards new school construction or renovation must comply with these standards, or they will not be approved. (Report of the SSIC / pgs. 3-5). Part of these standards are the use of security glass or film. Whereas film is effective for seconds, the use of security glass can add minutes to aid emergency responders.
School Guard Glass (SGG) is gaining attention in the glazing industry on a national level. Their products are thinner and stronger than any other glass on the market. The glass may be installed into new or existing aluminum, hollow metal, and wood doors and/or framing. An NBC CT Investigative Troubleshooters report demonstrates SGG being shot and then assaulted by a barrage of hits from a baseball bat and sledgehammer. At the conclusion, an intruder was unable to create a hole big enough to put a hand through.
Advanced Performance Glass is a proud provider and preferred installer of SGG. To inquire about a demonstration or additional information on how SGG can protect the ones you value, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
